Late Sunday, the Authority said in a press release that green waste would be accepted from businesses on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of this week, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The announcement comes after landscaping companies and commercial haulers were turned away from using temporary green waste dump sites set up after Tropical Storm Ernesto, which were apparently intended only for residential use.
Bovoni landfill has not accepted any green waste since a massive fire in September, and Waste Management has not responded to questions from The Daily News about long-term plans for disposing of vegetative debris. The problem is especially urgent after storms, and a large amount of fallen trees and bush have accumulated during the latest cleanup effort.
