Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, at his home in Plains, Georgia.

Surrounded by his family, Carter’s death marks the end of an extraordinary century-long life dedicated to public service, humanitarian work, and the pursuit of peace. At 100, he was the longest-living U.S. president in history. President Carter is survived by his children, Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy, as well as 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosalynn, his partner of 77 years, and one grandchild.
“My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love,” said his son, Chip Carter. “The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.” Public observances are planned in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., followed by a private interment in Plains, Georgia. Details of the state funeral, including motorcade routes and public events, are expected to be released soon.
