The three-year program will implement Rachel’s Challenge, a nationally recognized, evidence-based intervention, at 30 middle schools across the district. The initiative is expected to reach more than 23,000 students, focusing on improving school climate, promoting positive relationships, and preventing bullying, harassment, and violence. Rachel’s Challenge is inspired by the legacy of Rachel Scott, the first victim of the 1999 Columbine High School tragedy. M-DCPS serves one of the most diverse student populations in the nation, with more than 94% identifying as racial or ethnic minorities and nearly 25% classified as English language learners.
