Emergency 911 dispatchers directed Traffic Investigation Bureau officers shortly after 7:17 p.m. to investigate a collision involving a pedestrian, which occurred on Queen Mary Highway Route 70 in the vicinity of the Market Supermarket in Frederiksted, according to the VIPD.

Responding officers’ preliminary investigation revealed that prior to the crash the pedestrian was walking on the shoulder of the westbound lane, then crossed the roadway from south to north and began walking eastbound in the eastbound lane when she was struck from behind, police said.

The pedestrian was later identified at the scene by her next of kin as Christina Finney, according to police.

After the impact with the pedestrian, Christina Finney, the driver, who is unknown at this

time, exited his vehicle, and looked at Ms. Finney’s body on the ground,” VIPD spokeswoman Sakeeda Freeman said. “The individual then went back into his truck and drove away from the scene of the crash.”

No one reported being involved in a collision with a pedestrian at 911 or to any police station in the St. Croix District that evening, according to Freeman.

Finney’s body, after impact, was thrown into the air and landed approximately twenty-four feet from the area of impact, eastward onto the northern shoulder of the eastbound lane, police said.
