VI Reporter United States Virgin Islands – The global pandemic that most of the world is dealing with has affected us likewise here in the United States Virgin Islands. As such, Senator Alma Francis-Heyliger of the 34th Legislature has postponed her community outreach initiatives. “With concern for the residents, my staff, our families and the community at large, I can’t in good conscience execute my community outreach programs at his point, Senator Francis Heyliger said. “While I sincerely want to hear the pulse of the people regularly it is with great disappointment that I have to table these initiatives.” Those initiatives included going to the many different communities throughout the territory to conduct townhalls to get the unique concerns of the residents of the respective communities. Plans to join neighborhood groups on walk throughs of their towns and communities were also included. “With the continued rise in our cases on the upswing, it would be irresponsible off me and my office staffer to proceed at the point,” Francis Heyliger explained. “The health and lives of the community are at stake at this point and that will always supersede any initiative I wish to execute on behalf of my senatorial agenda.” Senator Francis Heyliger will continue to be available through her office and will continue to update the public on Monday’s during the Morning Mix with host Liston Davis on AM 1000 Radio One during the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 noon. In addition, she intends to continue to attend committee meetings as scheduled. “I encourage all residents to take the necessary precautions in protecting yourself, your families and the community at large,” Francis Heyliger admonished. “I need the community to safeguard against this pandemic. Let us be safe, get vaccinated, sanitize, wash your hands and wear your mask.”
