Fire Engulfs Abandoned Hotel in St. Thomas; No Injuries Reported

ST. THOMAS — A fire broke out at the abandoned Beachcomber Hotel in St. Thomas early Tuesday morning, drawing immediate response from local fire services.

The V.I. Fire and Emergency Services Hotel Command received a distress call at approximately 10:40 a.m. regarding a possible structural fire at the former hotel, which is situated along the road leading to the Cyril E. King Airport.

Units 101 and 207 of VIFEMS led by Captain George Straun, were promptly dispatched to the scene. Unit 3, arriving first, assessed the situation, seeking an entry point to tackle the blaze in the deserted structure. The fire service reported that the second story of the building was fully engulfed in flames upon their arrival.

Efforts to extinguish the fire proved effective, with firefighters bringing the blaze under control within 15 minutes. Following the initial response, the fire prevention division was notified to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire.
