Premier and Minister of Finance Dr Natalio Wheatley led the BVI delegation and held high-level discussions with Sint Maarten Prime Minister Luc Mercelina and senior officials from both governments. The mission marked a turning point in the relationship between the two Caribbean territories.

“This mission has strengthened our commitment to collaborate more closely on sustainable development, economic growth, and regional resilience,” Dr Wheatley stated. He added, “The Government of the Virgin Islands is proud to work alongside Sint Maarten to pioneer innovative solutions to common challenges and fully support their intention to pursue membership in the OECS.”

During the meeting, both leaders committed to enhancing regional integration and sharing resources to address mutual challenges. Premier Wheatley described Sint Maarten as “a vibrant and dynamic partner whose energy and vision are vital to advancing the shared goals of the two territories.”

Prime Minister Mercelina welcomed the engagement and recognised the BVI’s leadership in regional sustainable development efforts. “This first-of-its-kind meeting signalled the beginning of something greater,” he explained. “We have planted the seeds of collaboration, and we are committed to cultivating them into results-driven partnerships that will uplift the people of both our islands.”
