V.I. Police shot and killed a domestic violence suspect who opened fire on officers Sunday night in Lorraine Village on St. Croix.

The incident occurred at around 9:32 p.m., when officers responded to a 911 call from a woman in distress, who said a man was in her apartment with a gun and made threats to kill her, according to police.  Officers responded and “there was an exchange of shots. Two officers were injured, and the suspect was shot and killed during the exchange,” according to police.

The next of kin identified the deceased as 32-year-old Ke’Jah Andreas.  Both officers were transported to Luis Hospital and treated for their injuries, according to police.  The shooting remains under investigation.  The death marks the second confirmed homicide reported in the territory so far this year, after 25-year-old Jahkeem Joseph was shot and killed Saturday on St. Thomas.
