Betancourt bounces back to win M2M Time Trial

After missing several events while recovering from an illness, St. Croix’s Alex Betancourt recovered to win the Elite division title during the Virgin Islands Cycling Federation’s M2M Individual Time Trial, held Sunday on St. Croix.

Betancourt finished the 10-mile time trial course – which started near Gallows Bay and finished near Sally’s Fancy -- in 28 minutes, six seconds. That was four seconds ahead of runnerup Stephen Swanton (28:10), with David Morales a distant third in 28:57. Robin Seila was the top female finisher, coming in fourth in 30:32.

Other division winners and top finishers in Sunday’s M2M Individual Time Trial were: X In the Expert division, Norbert Prospere handily won the division title, completing the 10-mile course in 30:42. That was more than a minute ahead of runnerup Ted Prosper (31:50) and more than two minutes ahead of Miguel Cruz in third (32:51). Esther Ellis was the top female finisher, coming in fourth in 34:11.
