TORTOLA — An electronic card system for visitors coming in and out of the British Virgin Islands will go live early next month.
The so-called Embarkation-Disembarkation (ED) Card System, an initiative Immigration and Customs, will be a mandatory requirement for all travelers by early next year, according to a statement from Premier Natalio Wheatley.
Wheatley, who also serves as Immigration and Customs minister, said via statement that the online ED card replaces traditional paper-based forms with an efficient online platform, and will enhance the management of travelers information.
He added that this strategic move aligns with Immigration and Customs’ overarching goals of integrating digital solutions into immigration and customs services, streamlining operations and expediting processing times.
“The introduction of the ED Card system will reinforce the Virgin Islands’ reputation as a premier travel destination. The benefits of the online ED Card extend beyond the realm of immigration and customs,” Wheatley said. “For both locals and tourists, this new system promises a secure, more seamless and user-friendly experience.”
