The Office of the Territorial Public Defender said it is “demanding” that territorial law enforcement provide information about which cases involved investigation by the companies formerly run by David Whitaker, in the wake of his guilty plea to federal wire fraud and bribery charges.
Chief Territorial Public Defender Julie Todman issued a statement Thursday, calling on V.I. Police and the V.I. Department of Justice to share information about cases that involved the Office of Data Discovery and Forensic Analysis (ODDFA), Mon Ethos Pro Support, “or any of the other entities formerly headed by David Whitaker.”
The statement followed a Daily News story published on Thursday where defense attorney Clive Rivers said that all cases involving Whitaker “have to be seriously looked at,” and “I think they’re tainted at this point.”
Todman, in her statement said “Virgin Islanders have been and continue to be prosecuted by evidence that was being held in trust by this now-admitted criminal and the OTPD demands identification of those cases. The OTPD is committed to pursuing its inquiry into this revelation and will seek all avenues for justice if the authorities refuse to make a willing disclosure.”
