Dominica Remains Top Island In The Caribbean For Travel + Leisure Readers

Dubbed as the Caribbean’s Nature Island, Dominica has once again emerged as the top island to visit in the Caribbean in this year’s list of a prestigious New York-based travel magazine.

Like last year, readers of Travel + Leisure (T+L) are still lured by Dominica’s lush mountains and rain forests, as well as hot springs and black-sand shores.

““It is a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of stressful living,” one reader said in the World’s Best Awards survey conducted by T+L. “This is a place that should be on everyone’s bucket list. The people are friendly and welcoming, and there is so much to explore!”

Some of the most popular activities in Dominica according to voters include “hiking to sites like the famed volcanic Boiling Lake and the serene Emerald Pool in Morne Trois Pitons National Park.” Secret Bay has also become a favorite Caribbean resort.

Dominica garnered a total score 93.66, followed by Anguilla at 90.10, St. John: U.S. Virgin Islands at 88.82, and Eleuthera: Bahamas and St. Lucia at 88.30 and 88.20, respectively.

Dominica is not only becoming the region’s eco-friendly tourism destination, it is also positioning itself as the world’s first climate-resilient nation. And it shows in its massive infrastructure projects largely funded by the nation’s Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programme. From residential projects to healthcare, education, and transportation, Dominica is elevating its infrastructure with the help of Dubai-based developing company MMC Development Ltd., and building them to withstand hurricanes and other possible calamities.
