Education, citing heat wave, praises Home Depot for donating fans to public schools

The Education Department on Wednesday announced a partnership with Home Depot stores that has resulted in the donation of fans to schools territorywide.

Department officials praised what was described as a “generous gift,” citing recent heatwaves. “As the Virgin Islands, like many places globally, faces the challenges of an ongoing heat wave with abnormally high temperatures, the need for resources such as fans to provide relief has been a top priority for the VIDE,” the department said in a released statement.

Home Depot’s “act of community-centered kindness represents the true meaning of ‘it takes a village’ to support our students,” the release stated. Education Commissioner Dionne Wells-Hedrington in praising the partnership, thanked all who made the donation of fans possible.
