ST. CROIX — There’s a new kid on the block. His name is Kalani, and he wants to teach Virgin Islands boys and girls about their history and culture through his world of animation.
Kirk Rojas, a graphic designer from St. Croix and owner and creative mastermind at Remedii Productions, alongside his 10-year-old son Carter, launched a YouTube Channel last month featuring the animated series “Kalani’s V.I. Adventures.” It is dedicated to Virgin Islands culture, history, tradition and influencers — taught in ways that appeal to children.
“The more I learned about designing I fell in love with animation. I got into 2D animation and then 3D animation and I thought that it cold be a really cool and valuable teaching tool,” said Rojas, a graphic designer for over 13 years. He said he enjoys tapping into the creative mind and talents of his young son, and thought they could work together to create teaching tools for Carter’s peers. “Carter is a real entertainer in his own right and this project gives us the opportunity to share information about our home, build on his talents, bond while working together and having fun,” he said. Together, they created “Kalani’s V.I. Adventures” and launched the first two episodes of children’s videos.
