Governor announces new appointments for Cabinet & other agencies

Gov. Jenniffer González Colón announced on Tuesday a new round of appointments for her Cabinet and other government agencies, which includes leaders in key areas such as treasury, labor, economic development, recreation and sports, tourism and transportation.

“This component, obviously, will be sworn in today by the secretary of state and will begin its functions today in recess, since the Legislative Assembly begins its operations next week, on Monday,” the governor said at a press conference. “So with these appointments we are filling what is the constitutional Cabinet, and tomorrow we will have another group. If we were not going to be here all afternoon, I would have presented them all here. So I want to congratulate the new members of the Cabinet for their willingness to work for Puerto Rico, to fulfill the task that the people gave us with a government platform, which is the guide for what we are going to be doing.”

Among the appointees is Ángel Pantoja as treasury secretary. Pantoja, who has held various roles within the agency, was a key player in the digitalization of the tax system known as SURI. “Ángel Pantoja has an exceptional professional career that will be essential to maintaining fiscal stability and the modernization of the Treasury Department,” González Colón said.  For the Department of Labor and Human Resources, Nydza Irizarry Algarín was appointed as secretary. Irizarry has more than 30 years of experience in the legal and human resources field, having led significant organizational reforms in various government agencies.
