BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI – Former legislator Shereen D. Flax-Charles has called for more initiatives to honour the late former legislator and cultural icon, Ms Eileene L. Parsons, OBE, known affectionately as 'Miss P.'
This appeal was made during a special tribute broadcast on the National Democratic Party (NDP) radio programme, aired live on Facebook on Monday, June 30, 2025.
Flax-Charles, who called in to the radio programme, reflected on Ms Parsons' contributions, both as a politician and as a cultural ambassador for the Virgin Islands. She expressed her deep sadness at Ms Parsons' passing, saying, "One of the things that stands out for me most is that one of the last things she said to me was, 'You remind me so much of myself when I was younger.' She was an icon not only in politics but also in our culture."
The former Jr Minister shared cherished memories of Ms Parsons, noting her understanding of the significance of Virgin Islands culture. "She was an outspoken woman who was well-respected and loved by many. She will be missed, but it's essential for us to remember what she stood for," Flax-Charles added.
