Historic! Adaejah Hodge wins silver at World U20 Championships

BVI sprint prodigy Adaejah Hodge secured a silver medal in the women’s 100-metre final at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Lima, Peru, yesterday.

The 18-year-old crossed the finish line in a time of 11.27 seconds, just a tenth of a second behind the gold medalist, Jamaica’s Alana Reid (11.17).

The race came down to the runner with the better start, as Reid exploded off the blocks and maintained her lead throughout. Hodge had to overcome a slightly sluggish start but displayed impressive acceleration in the second half of the race to secure her silver medal position.

Her podium finish marks a significant achievement for Hodge and the BVI, as she is now the second individual athlete from the territory to medal at the U20 World Championships. Hodge’s silver surpasses the best individual finish, a bronze medal by Kyron McMaster earned in the men’s 400-meter hurdles in 2016.
