Man charged with murder has several other unresolved gun cases

Rosniel Diaz-Bautista

The man charged with killing 24-year-old Indierra Morales was released from jail in June, and is still awaiting trial for a 2022 shooting case in which Morales was also a co-defendant, as well as two 2020 gun possession cases.

Morales was shot to death early Sunday morning, and V.I. Police quickly apprehended the suspect, Rosniel Diaz-Bautista, 22, and charged him with first-degree murder. Bail was set at $1 million. Police misspelled Diaz-Bautista’s first name as “Rosnel” in initial reports.

According to the probable cause fact sheet filed by police, officers responded to a report of gunfire on King Street in Frederiksted, St. Croix, at 12:55 a.m. Sunday. When police arrived, they found Morales sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked in front of 16A King Street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her left side and torso.
