The Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Sub-Committee is calling on the community to assist in raising funds for the upcoming event, set to take place from April 19 to April 21.
Speaking on JTV recently, Chairperson Reshawn Stevens explained that funding for this year’s festival differs from previous years.
“Last year we were allotted $100,000 and then with that the committee also raised about $90,000 in sponsorship,” Stevens stated. “This year we were allotted $250,000 but this year we are challenged with consuming the entire cost of our staging, the venue and all of that.”
He also highlighted additional financial challenges, including rising travel and accommodation costs.
“We also have to keep in mind the cost of travel right now given the amount of days we have and how tight it is with accommodations,” he added. “We also have to find places to put our artists.”
As a result, the committee has turned to the public for support.
