Outgoing UVI president outlines consequences of proposed budget cut

ST. CROIX — Lawmakers on the Senate Finance Committee heard Monday that the University of the Virgin Islands’ recommended 2025 budget could lead to hiring freezes, employee wage stagnation and a reduction in student services

The university’s testimony was led by David Hall, addressing the committee for the last time in his capacity as president of UVI. The university’s incoming president, Safiya George, was also present. Hall’s testimony highlighted a range of milestones reached by the university, both in the last year and over the course of his 15-year tenure.

Recent accomplishments Hall noted include today’s ribbon-cutting ceremony for UVI’s Medical School classroom building and biomedical research laboratory; the November groundbreaking at the Albert A. Sheen campus’ School of Nursing and the reopening of two agricultural facilities on St. Croix.
