Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has come under fire for keeping Governor Daniel Pruce waiting for nearly 40 minutes during the recent House of Assembly (HOA) throne speech.
The throne speech, delivered by the Governor, outlines the government’s legislative agenda for the upcoming year. The delay, which occurred earlier this month, sparked criticism from Opposition members, who accused the Premier of showing a lack of respect for the legislative process and the office of the Governor. Sixth District Representative Myron Walwyn raised the issue during a recent press conference held by the Opposition. He described the Premier’s tardiness as part of a broader pattern of behaviour demonstrating a lack of respect for the House of Assembly and its proceedings.
“The last throne speech, the Governor’s people were there. He had the Governor waiting almost 40 minutes for him to arrive so the Governor can give the throne speech,” Walwyn told reporters. He added that this behaviour reflects poorly on the Premier’s understanding of his responsibilities as a legislator. Walwyn also criticised the Premier for his government’s handling of legislative matters, including introducing bills to the House. He accused the government of failing to adequately scrutinise legislation before it reaches the House, leading to delays and confusion.
