FISH BAY, Tortola, VI- The breakaway group that left the National Democratic Party (NDP) and formed its own group in 2018, Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM), is expected to launch eight (8) candidates this evening, Monday, March 6, 2023.
4 At-Large & 4 District Candidates
Sources close to the group told our news center that the PVIM has four At-Large candidates and four District candidates and is working on another two candidates for the 2023 General Election of the Virgin Islands.
Expected to fill the four At-Large slots are Mr. Ronnie W. Skelton (Party Chairman), former Speaker of the House of Assembly Ingrid A. Moses, Shaina M. Smith-Archer and Stacy Mather (Executive Director of Youth Empowerment Program).
It is our understanding that the District slots filled so far are: D1- Sylvia C. Moses, D2- Incumbent Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (Deputy Party Chairman), D4- Paul A. Hewlett aka ‘Paul on the Ball’ and D9- Hon Shereen D. Flax-Charles, a current At-Large Representative who jumped from the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) to PVIM last month.
Meanwhile, it is our understanding that some are already raising issues about the eligibility of Mr. Mather to run, as he was born in the United Kingdom and allegedly none of his parents are born in the Virgin Islands.
It is unclear when and if the other District seats will be filled or if they will be announced today; however, the PVIM is actively speaking to many potential candidates, but some have already backed out.
