Scammers posing as Cancer Society representatives!

The BVI Cancer Society (BVICS) has issued a warning to the public about a scam involving individuals falsely claiming to represent the non-profit organisation.

In a media release on Friday, January 11, the BVICS reported receiving multiple complaints from community members about the fraudulent activities.  “These scammers are reportedly inviting individuals to Zoom calls or making false claims related to our Bingo fundraising events,” the organisation stated.  Expressing deep concern over the misuse of their name, the Cancer Society clarified its communication practices:

“The misuse of our name is deeply concerning, and we are committed to ensuring the public is informed and protected,” the statement read.  The BVICS emphasized that they do not conduct transactions or send invitations via WhatsApp. Instead, official communications are only shared through verified channels, including their website, Facebook platform, and trusted community partners.  The public is advised to avoid engaging with suspicious messages, contact the Society directly, and report any concerns to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).
