Smith at the PanAm Sports Awards 2023, Virgin Islanders in the Indoor Track and Field Season

Virgin Islands Sports Ambassador Michelle Smith was invited by the PanAm Sports organization to attend the second PanAm Sports Awards 2023 Gala on behalf of the Virgin Islands Olympic Committee. This event rewards athletes, coaches and Olympic committees across the Western Hemisphere for their participation in the Pan American Games.

The games were held in Santiago, Chile. Michelle Smith competed in the 400m hurdles for the Virgin Islands where she had an impressive 4th place finish.

Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Michael Dizon-Bumann, a sophomore at Cornell University and graduate from Good Hope Country Day School, began his Indoor Track and Field season at the Greg Page Relays in Ithaca, N.Y., on Dec. 2.

Dizon-Bumann helped his 800m relay team to a 3rd place finish with a time of 8:02.52.

He will compete next in the Southern Tier Invite in Ithaca, N.Y., on Jan. 13, 2024.

Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Sofia Swindell, a junior at Lawrenceville School, competed in the Indoor Jim Mitchell Invitational 2024 on Dec. 9 in New York, NY. Swindell competed in the 300m and finished first with a personal record of 39.97. She also finished 1st in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.48.

Her next meet will be the Bears High School Invitational in Collegeville, Penn., on Jan. 10, 2024.
