V.I. teams both take draws in USA Cup group matches

Both of the U.S. Virgin Islands youth soccer teams playing in the USA Cup tournament played to a draw in their Wednesday group-play matches. St. Croix’s Helenites Sports Club has its under-11 boys and under-16 boys teams entered in the tournament, which concludes Saturday at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn.

Helenites SC’s U-11 boys, playing in the 11B Bronze division, claimed its second straight draw in Bracket B with a 3-3 tie against Minnesota Rush 13B TO (0-1-1, one point). Helenites SC U-11s (0-2-0, two points) had goals from forward Chase Brunson and midfielder Jai Harris, with a Minnesota Rush own goal accounting for the third score.

Helenites SC U-11s will close out group play today against MapleBrook SC 13B Jr. Championship I (1-0-0, three points), which faced North United SC 13B Platinum (0-0-1) in Wednesday’s late match. Helenites’ finish in the standings will determine where they open in the elimination rounds Friday.
