As More Trump Tariffs Loom, Americans Are Starting to Worry

As President Donald Trump readies another formal announcement related to tariffs on imported goods Thursday, fears are mounting among businesses and consumers alike.

Since taking over the Oval Office, Trump has imposed – then sometimes delayed – tariffs on key U.S. trading partners Canada, Mexico and China. He has threatened, then quickly retracted, tariffs on Colombia. Each in turn threatened or readied tariffs of their own, on U.S. goods.

And now, Trump has promised “reciprocal” tariffs on all trade partners that apply tariffs to U.S. exports – including the European Union – which he’s expected to announce Thursday.

“TODAY IS THE BIG ONE: RECIPROCAL TARIFFS!!!” Trump posted on his social media site, Truth Social, on Thursday. “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

Economists have long held the opinion that tariffs increase prices for Americans, thereby fueling inflation, while also endangering economic growth. But now that realization may be sinking in with everyday Americans.
