Contour Airlines Launches St. Maarten-St. Thomas Service with Inaugural Flight

Contour Airlines launched its new nonstop service between St. Thomas and St. Maarten on Monday, opening another air connection between the territory and the wider Caribbean.

As the airline taxied its way to the gate, the aircraft was saluted on both sides with water from the firefighters at the Cyril E. King Airport. Passengers disembarked shortly after, officially highlighting the inaugural flight for the airline.

The new route is part of the airline’s effort to expand its Caribbean footprint and address what the airline saw as a need for inter-island air travel.

“One of the things that we see as a void in the Caribbean in itself is inner-island travel,” said Andrew Chevalier, vice president of airports and guest experiences for the airline. “So we see a lot of great opportunity, but we want to fill the void where we can get folks between the islands and they don’t have to fly to Miami and then continue on,” he added. “One of the things that was important to us was being able to add some more connectivity down into the Caribbean.”
