Housing Project In Pointe Michel, Dominica Begins

After some delay, the Pointe Michel housing project at the southwest coast of Dominica will finally commence.

This has been announced by Denise Charles, who serves as Minister of Tourism, International Transport and Maritime Initiatives, as well as Chairman of the OECS Council of Tourism Ministers of Dominica.

“The project was delayed to ensure that we amicably resolved matters related to housing and the development of the Poree Playing Field,” Charles said on her Facebook post last August 9.

Pointe Michel is a small town south of Dominica’s capital, Roseau, and is famous for being the birthplace of Dominica’s first female Prime Minister, Dame Eugenia Charles. The government is building 16 climate-resilient homes in Union Estate, near Poree for the residents displaced by Hurricane Maria in 2017.

Charles thanked the residents and the government entities involved in the project for their “cooperation and understanding.”

“I want to thank the Ministry of Housing, Pointe Michel Sports Council, Pointe Michel Village Council, DFA, Ministry of Sports, and the residents for their cooperation and understanding. I expect excellent workmanship from our contractors and their teams,” she said.
