‘I don’t expect to get Commissioner’s post in a handbasket’- Jacqueline E. Vanterpool

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- After over a month of speculation as to whether she would reapply for the post of Commissioner of Police (CoP) in accordance with the wishes of the community, and initially stating that she was waiting for instructions from the Lord, local Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline E. Vanterpool has disclosed she has reapplied.

Ms Vanterpool has been acting in the office of CoP since the retirement of former CoP Mark Collins since October 24, 2024. She disclosed in April 2025 that she had applied for the position and was scheduled to be interviewed when the vacancy announcement was made in early 2024.

However, Governor Daniel Pruce abruptly stopped the recruitment process pending the release of the Second Volume of the Law Enforcement Review, which he said would give even more guidelines for the recruitment process.

Many saw this as the Governor’s way of trying to make it difficult for a local like Ms Vanterpool to get the post. Ms Vanterpool, in an interview on JTV Channel 55 on April 23, 2025, had said she was disappointed when she was not given an opportunity to be interviewed for the post and that she had not yet reapplied since she was awaiting the Lord to lead.

The new application process closed on May 30, 2025.
