Lawmakers grill OMB leaders on gov't spending reduction plan

ST. CROIX — At several points on Tuesday, Senate Finance Committee members appeared frustrated by the narrow scope of testimony provided by leadership from the V.I. Management and Budget Office.

Acting OMB Director Kimika Woods led testimony to justify the office’s nearly $10 million budget request. That sum comprises a nearly $7.9 million General Fund appropriation and more than $2.1 million from the Indirect Cost Fund.

The office’s budget presentation followed weeks of testimony from government department heads, many of whom told lawmakers that their recommended allotments would be insufficient to fund critical services.
