Man with long criminal past stabbed by victim in unprovoked assault

A St. Thomas man with a long criminal history, Katanio Peets, is back in jail after police said he attacked a woman, who stabbed him in self defense, according to V.I. Superior Court records.

His latest arrest occurred on Sunday, when V.I. Police responded to the parking lot of Tutu Park Mall and detained Peets, who had a large laceration to his left arm. Peets was transported to Schneider Hospital via ambulance for treatment, and investigators interviewed the female victim and other witnesses at the scene, who explained what led to the bloody encounter.

Peets caused a disturbance at Kmart, before getting into a fight with a woman outside at the bus stop, according to police. The victim explained that as she was getting on the bus, she saw Peets being told to leave because he didn’t have any money to pay the fare. The victim said she pulled out money for herself and a friend, who was holding the victim’s young child, and she was planning to offer to pay for Peets as well.
