Michelle Smith Breaks Her Own Virgin Islands U20 400 Meter Record

Michelle Smith, a freshman at the University of Georgia, showcased her remarkable talent at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina, on Friday.

In the 400 meters, she set a new Virgin Islands National Under-20 record with a time of 52.97 seconds. This achievement places her in the top 10 in the University of Georgia’s track and field history, securing the No. 6 spot. Additionally, her performance ranks her fourth in the world for the Under-20 category.

Smith’s contributions didn’t end there. She ran the second leg of the 4×400 meters relay, clocking an impressive split of 52.08 seconds. Her efforts, combined with those of her teammates, led the University of Georgia to a time of 3:28.95, which is the third fastest time in UGA’s school history.

The Interscholastic Track and Field Series will continue on St. Croix on Thursday, with the championship competition. Middle school and high school athletes will kick off the competition at 4 p.m. at the St. Croix Educational Track and Field Facility. The excitement continues the next day, Friday, when elementary school athletes take to the track at the same time and location.
