No lack of trust in my ministers avoiding the press — Premier

Premier Andrew Fahie has denied that a lack of confidence in his ministers is the reason none of them ever held any press conferences on their own, despite being in office for more than two years. At a recent press conference, the Premier was asked why he was the only minister from his administration that has consistently faced the media, despite previous assurances that all of his ministers would have engagements with the local press corps.

The Premier, who is also the territory’s Finance and Tourism Minister, disclosed that his team of ministers — all of whom are first-term legislators — have instead been preoccupied with duties and engagements across the sister islands in the territory.

“My ministers don’t have anything to hide. As a matter of fact, they’ve been doing things that I haven’t been doing also. They have been going to the sister islands and having office hours,” the Premier shared.

He said their absence before the press corps can’t be attributed to lack of trust on his part, as one may then similarly deduce that there is a lack of trust in him not visiting the sister islands to hold office hours as his ministers have done.

According to Premier Fahie, his ministers’ schedules for the sister islands have been very vigorous.
