Plaskett Announces $4.5 Million USAID Relief for Hurricane Beryl Victims in Caribbean

Congresswoman Plaskett secures immediate humanitarian aid for Caribbean neighbors

Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett has announced that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide $4.5 million in immediate humanitarian assistance to communities impacted by Hurricane Beryl. This funding aims to support recovery efforts in the affected regions.

“Immediately after learning of the impact of Hurricane Beryl on our Caribbean neighbors, I reached out to Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-12), who serves on the Appropriations Committee as the Ranking Democrat for the Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs. I am deeply grateful to USAID for providing this critical funding and to my colleague Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-12) for working with my office to elevate this issue and ensure the availability of funds,” said Congresswoman Plaskett.

The $4.5 million assistance will be utilized to repair shelters, address water and sanitation needs, support operations, and bolster overall relief efforts, according to Ms. Plaskett. She emphasized the necessity of remaining engaged with Caribbean communities, partners, and local governments to strengthen disaster preparedness and response efforts. “Given the unpredictability of hurricane activity, it is essential that we remain engaged with our Caribbean communities, partners, and local governments to support and strengthen disaster preparedness and response efforts,” she stated.
