Power Outages Disrupt School Operations in St. Thomas-St. John District for Second Day

Schools in the St. Thomas-St. John District will remain closed until at least 10:00 a.m. on Thursday due to a second consecutive day of power outages. The V.I. Water & Power Authority attributed the interruption to a generation loss affecting the entire district.

In a statement, WAPA announced: "Please be advised that the islands of St. Thomas and St. John are experiencing an island-wide outage due to a generation loss. WAPA Plant personnel are continuing restoration efforts to bring service back online. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience while personnel work diligently and safely."

The V.I. Dept. of Education has announced that essential workers should report to work at 9:00 a.m., while students and all other staff will report for a delayed start at 10:00 a.m.

"This unfortunate event has affected our ability to conduct regular operations in the district," VIDE stated.

Education officials said they are actively monitoring the situation and are on standby for further information regarding power restoration efforts. The department has emphasized the importance of timely communication and will keep the public informed via official channels.
