ST. CROIX — Soca sensation Dennis “Pumpa” Liburd added another accolade to his impressive career, winning the prestigious Impact Award at the Caribbean Music Awards.

He did so with his hit song “A List” and on stage took the mic with this catchy call-and-answer lyric: “If yuh name end with an A! The crowd needed no instruction, immediately chiming in with “Bend right ovah.” “I want to say thank you to the Virgin Islands, the V.I. people them. Big up the whole V.I. massive,” Liburd said in his acceptance speech. “Big up to all of the small island massive. Big up St. Kitts, Dominica, Antigua, the whole small island crew. Trinidad and Tobago for busting me to the world. Big up to all, everybody representing for soca. This one is for soca.”

Liburd paused in his seat as to take in the moment when he was announced as the Impact Award winner, and could be seen putting on his sunglasses before standing and making his way to the stage to rousing applause. The award recognizes Liburd and his significant contributions to the music industry and his impact on the Caribbean music scene.
