Seven years later, storm-hit BVI's Peter Island Resort to reopen

After a seven-year hiatus brought on by Hurricane Irma, the largest island resort in the British Virgin Islands is set to reopen on Dec. 1.

Peter Island Resort, closed since 2017, has undergone a rebranding that has transformed the property to a new level of luxury, according to a released statement. In addition to relocating the heart of the resort to a stretch on Deadman’s Beach, “guests of the new Peter Island Resort will find stunning new beach front rooms and suites, two masterfully redesigned villas, an extensive Yacht Club, two restaurants, a 10,000 square foot seaside spa, and an expanded events and meetings area,” the release stated. Further, it noted that throughout the transformation, priority was placed on preserving the 52-room resort’s intimate, casual elegance and hundreds of acres of unspoiled tropical island.

“We’re pleased to announce our official opening date of December 1, 2024, for the unveiling of a new Peter Island and are excited to introduce guests to an exquisitely reimagined resort with the same beauty and charm that has enchanted visitors for decades,” David Van Andel, president of Peter Island Resort, said. He added that at the upgraded Peter Island Resort, “both land-loving and seafaring guests will enjoy Peter Island in their own way. This includes the island’s many natural wonders including idyllic beaches, the scenic sunset loop showcasing panoramic views of the Virgin Islands, and the inviting blue-green seas ideal for water sports, swimming, sailing, fishing, and snorkeling.”
