The Lieutenant Governor’s Office has announced that the Geographic Information Systems Division will conduct E911 system tests on St. John from Monday through Thursday, Feb. 6.
Utilizing the new street address grid for St. John, and in partnership with V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency, V.I. Police Department, and V.I. Fire and Emergency Medical Services, the territory’s emergency responders will involve residents and community members in mock emergency situations. Chris George, street addressing initiative project manager, told The Daily News that four random candidates have been selected to call 911.
“They will be calling and providing dispatchers with various forms of addressing, some will give a parcel number, an address, or some may not know where they are calling from,” George said. “We are testing all sorts of situations that could happen.” An E911 system, or Enhanced 911 system, automatically provides emergency responders with the caller’s location and phone number when a call is made to emergency services.
