Thousands of revelers en route to Frederiksted on UberSoca Cruise

ST. CROIX — Thousands of revelers plan to set sail today from Miami aboard Norwegian Jade en route to the Caribbean on the UberSoca Cruise. It’s the 10th anniversary of the popular cruise.

The cruise features onboard parties and concerts, starting today and continuing through Thursday morning when the ship docks in Frederiksted, its first stop. Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte said last week that the department has been preparing for months for the event and is ready to receive the ship’s 2,500 passengers and its more than 1,000 crewmembers.

This year’s cruise is special in that this is the 10th anniversary of the voyage. Tourism is rolling out the red carpet. Passengers will have the opportunity to partake in a one-of-a-kind J’ouvert celebration once the ship docks. Boschulte said the tramp will be routed through the streets of Frederiksted on a 2-mile journey that will give revelers a taste of Crucian cultural traditions.

“As we continue to expand marketing the territory as a destination to the world, we know the importance of continued recentering in culture and heritage,” Boschulte said. “The partnership with UberSoca Cruises allows us to connect and showcase our islands with the Caribbean diaspora and lovers of our rich regional culture.”
