USVI Records First Homicide of 2024 Following Shooting Incident in St. Thomas

ST. THOMAS — The U.S. Virgin Islands reported its first homicide of the year 2024 early on Sunday. Authorities were notified by the V.I. Police Department's ShotSpotter system at approximately 3:05 a.m. of multiple gunshots in the vicinity of Post Office Square in St. Thomas.

Following the alert, several 911 calls were made by citizens reporting the gunfire, with reports of at least two individuals being shot. The victims were reportedly transported to Schneider Regional Medical Center by private vehicles.

Upon arrival at the hospital, both gunshot victims were given immediate medical attention. The first victim, 23-year-old Jahnni B. Thompson, suffered at least one gunshot wound to the upper body. Despite prompt medical intervention, Thompson tragically passed away due to the severity of his injuries.
