White powder brought to Florida ICE center by Cuban migrant causes guard to fall ill, forces building evacuation

MIAMI (NYP) — A suspicious package brought to a Florida Immigration and Customs Enforcement office by a Cuban migrant caused a security guard to fall ill and forced a sudden evacuation of the building Thursday morning, according to authorities.

A bag with a “white powdery substance” sent a scare through the facility in Miramar around 7:15 a.m. and led to the migrant’s arrest as President Trump and ICE have made frequent headlines for their crackdown on illegal immigration since the Republican took office last month.

A flood of local authorities and first responders converged on the office after a security officer came in contact with the package during a regular screening and got sick, Miramar police and ICE told The Post in separate statements.

It’s unclear if the guard touched the package or was only in proximity to it, Miramar police public information officer Janice McIntosh said.
