Woman’s body found on Fisher Street

Virgin Islands police discovered the decomposing body of a woman in St. Croix late Tuesday morning.

An emergency dispatcher got a call at 11:23 a.m. from a concerned citizen of a foul odor coming from an abandoned residence located on Fisher Street in Christiansted town, according to the VIPD.

Responding officers found “the body of a female in an advanced stage of decomposition,” VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.

“The cause of death is unknown at this time pending an autopsy,” Chichester said.

DNA testing will attempt identify the remains, and once identified, next of kin will be notified, she said.
