NEW YORK — Authorities investigating Monday’s fatal shooting inside a Manhattan office building are focusing on a note left by the gunman, Shane Tamura, according to Mayor Eric Adams.
Speaking to MSNBC, Adams said that the note referenced chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a disease linked to head trauma, and that Tamura appeared to be “focused on the NFL,” which has offices in the building. Police say the 27-year-old from Las Vegas, who had “documented mental health history,” traveled across the country before entering the lobby of the skyscraper, armed with an M4 rifle, and “spraying it with gunfire.” He then went to the 33rd floor, where he fired more rounds and fatally shot himself. He killed four people, including a police officer, and injured an NFL employee.
Four people were killed, including a New York City police officer, and one seriously injured when a gunman opened fire inside a high-rise office building in Midtown Manhattan on Monday evening.
The gunman then fatally shot himself in the chest, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch said at a news conference Monday night. The attack put the 44-story building into lockdown and threw a normally busy rush hour in the United States’ most populous city into chaos
