VI Department of Justice Criminal Division Chief Amie Simpson Retires

The Virgin Islands Department of Justice announces the retirement of Amie Simpson, Chief of the Criminal Division for the St. Croix District, after 28 years of dedicated service. Simpson’s final day with the Department will be August 8, 2025, marking the end of a distinguished career in public service.

During her tenure, Chief Simpson led her team in managing hundreds of criminal cases, created and implemented innovative diversion and mental health initiatives, streamlined internal juvenile justice procedures, and significantly reduced the Department’s case backlog. She maintained close working relationships with law enforcement and community partners, while providing extensive training and mentoring to attorneys and officers alike.

The DOJ has faced many challenges over the last several years, not the least of which involved the years-long pause as the VI Justice system dealt with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these challenges, Attorney General Gordon Rhea commended Simpson for remaining steadfast in her responsibilities—trying cases, managing a full docket, and supervising her team with determination and professionalism until her final days of service.
