Youth Soccer Shines at Frenchtown Fun Day

Dozens of young soccer players brought Joseph Aubain Ballpark to life this past weekend, sprinting across the pitch as supporters filled the stands. Bright cleats kicked up dust, whistles pierced the air, and the unmistakable sound of joy echoed across the fields at Frenchtown Soccer Fun Day — a youth-focused event that celebrated the game and strengthened the community.

Hosted collaboratively by New Vibes Soccer Club, Massey Soccer Academy, and the Lindbergh Bay Park Kids Soccer Program, the event united under-8, under-10, and under-15 players for a full day of skill-building and friendly competition. More than that, it marked an important step toward cultivating a deeper, more unified soccer culture across St. Thomas and St. John — one that goes beyond players to include parents, coaches, and community leaders alike.

“This is what it’s all about,” reflected JP de Jongh, head coach and organizer of the Lindbergh Bay Park Kids Soccer Program. “We’re building a football community — one that connects players, organizers, parents, and fans. Seeing everyone come together like this was powerful.” He attributed much of the event’s success to a shared vision among participating clubs. “I’m very proud of the turnout and want to again thank New Vibes S.C. and Massey Soccer Academy for prioritizing this event and making the effort to come out.”

From the sidelines, the excitement was contagious. Players spanned every field from goal to goal, erupting after each tough block and clever pass. Coaches offered steady guidance, parents filmed every touch, and volunteers kept the flow of ice-cold water — and double high-fives — going strong. The day wasn’t about wins or losses, but about the kind of memories that turn sports into lifelong passions.
