School Start Time Delayed Amid Ongoing STT-STJ WAPA Outage

The opening time for all public schools on St. Thomas and St. John is delayed to 9 a.m. due to a power outage affecting the district since Wednesday night, the V.I. Education Department announced Thursday morning.

District and state offices also will open at 9 a.m., the department said, “per advisement of the Water and Power Authority.”

Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure students arrive at school safely and in accordance with the revised opening time, the announcement said. Faculty, staff, and members of the public conducting business with district and state offices should also plan accordingly, it said.

“The department will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary through its official communication channels. Families, students, employees, and the wider community are encouraged to follow official VIDE announcements for the latest information,” according to the announcement.
